I remember every summer my grandmother used to put a soft cotton cover on her sofa. It covered up the upholstery because in those days she didn’t have central air conditioning and I can still feel how cool (temperature) that cover felt on my skin.
Summer was a time to get rid of the winter clutter that had accumulated - a time to open up the house and make it as easy as possible for the breeze to blow through.
When we rearrange the house to prepare for a new season, it opens up possibilities for change and often the easiest and least expensive is a change to the walls. Painting is one way OR even less work is changing out your artwork. “Nope” you say. “All that calculating and figuring out how to get everything to hang exactly right? I’d rather paint!”
Well, wall art can take many forms, it’s not just paintings and photos. You can hang mementos such as family heirlooms framed or not. Check out this article from Pottery Barn on decorating a Gallery Wall.
To me the trick is to have a variety of sizes and make sure you don’t have any of them aligned as in this photo! And if everything is in frames, just have the frames match in color . But for those of you who need everything just so, there are ideas for you here too!
